Outback

I’d like to go wandering down some unknown outback track

as they did of old … in tales told … with a swag across my back

To no longer hear the traffic … roaring up and down the road

belching acerbic  fumes … threatening our lungs to corrode

Camping at sunset near a river … under a gnarled gum tree

and warming hands by the gidgee coal … while brewing billy tea

Only the sounds of nature … no electronic racket near

and when you stop to listen …  there is such a lot to hear

A choir of nestling birds … in the canopy of branches over head

an innate soundtrack … to the beauty as stars appear outspread

setting the stage for the majestic moon … as she glides on high

the way drovers settled for the night … in  golden days gone by

Yes … I’d like to go wandering down some unknown outback track

as they did of old … in tales told … with a swag across my back
